Philosophy

Philosophy

As consultants we share a common philosophy of work, which we consider our trademark in the relations with our clients. The philosophy can be summarised in three key statements:

  • Tailor-made services  We do not provide blueprint solutions, but offer services based on the needs of the clients. The first step in the consultancy is to reach a common understanding of the requirements for the assignment and of what the clients want to achieve with the support of the consultants. The capacities of the clients guide the consultants in the choice of the appropriate methodology;
  • Participatory approach  We work closely with the clients in all phases of the assignment and maintain short feedback loops, which enable an input from the side of the clients whenever necessary. We prefer working hand in hand with the client to increase ownership of the conclusions and recommendations;
  • Process – context approach  We always strive for a flexible and integral process of consultation, feedback and adjustments based on the needs arising and the changing context during the assignments. For more efficient, effective and sustainable results, we consider it necessary that the broader context of projects or programmes is analyzed and incorporated into the possible options for improvement. We think that cultural and socio-economic circumstances, but also ‘underlying’ organizational factors are of crucial importance for achieving results.

PHC applies the same philosophy of work in the North and the South. In our experience, discovering the similarities, the differences and the parallels between countries and regions is enriching our work. We strongly believe that the crucial themes in health and how organizations operate in the Netherlands, in Eastern Europe and in the South coincide. Themes, like community involvement in health, protection of the weakest in the society, the role of women in health, the involvement of grassroots health workers in planning and decision making, are all relevant in the Netherlands and abroad.
